Duke of Edinburgh International Award

Denmark Senior High School proudly offers The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a leading youth development program for students aged fourteen to twenty-four and has been licenced since 2017. This structured framework empowers participants to explore their potential through community service, fitness, skills, development, and adventure. The program is inclusive, non-competitive, and fosters personal growth, resilience, and achievement. The Award is widely recognised and valued by companies, educational institutions, and international organisations, as it symbolises a well-rounded individual who makes a positive impact on society.

Does your student do soccer, football, art club, karate, netball, basketball, cricket, mountain bike riding, surf club or another afterschool or weekend activity? Are they 14 or above?

Well…. they are already on their way to earning the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, all they need to do is:

  1. Sign up on the website with parent permission. There is a fee to join.
  1. Keep a diary of what they do each session.
  2. Complete 3 activities (a skill, a physical recreation, and a community service). No time limit to complete.
  3. Go on a camp which we call ‘an adventurous journey’ with other students. Our 2022 camp was a hike from Greens Pool back to School, our 2021 camp was climbing Castle Rock and Bluff Knoll. In 2024 we have a gold level Adventurous Journey planned for April, this will be trekking the Cape to Cape on the Southwest Coast for 5 days and 4 nights.

Completion of your Gold level Duke of Edinburgh Award is much desired by universities and employers. Employers say, ‘When you hire someone with this Award, you know what kind of person you’re getting. They have the skills, behaviours and attitudes employers are looking for. Those of communication, teamwork, decision making, perseverance, organisation, leadership, self-confidence, citizenship, and resilience’.
